Teen Driver’s License Course (Behind-the-Wheel) ($350)

If you are Under 18 and working towards your Driver’s License, Virginia DMV requires you to complete an approved Teen Driver’s License Course (Behind-the-Wheel).

The Behind-the-Wheel program includes 7 sessions, each consisting of:
✔ 50 minutes of driving with a Certified Driving Instructor, who provides coaching and feedback.
✔ 50 minutes of observation, during which the student rides in the back seat and observes another student’s driving.

Once you successfully finish the course, you will receive a Temporary Driver’s License (TDL-180). When paired by a valid Virginia Learner’s Permit, this serves as your Driver’s License for 180 days from the eligibility date. The DMV will then mail your permanent license before the temporary license expires.
